Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is an evidence-based therapy for treating trauma, chronic negative thoughts, and other mental health disorders. EMDR is a part of energy psychology, helping the client heal their own brain and addressing the body/nervous system response. Trauma is trapped and stored in the body and tissues and must be moved. EMDR can also help overcome sports-related issues and enhance confidence and skill development. EMDR can also be utilized to help clients overcome the mental drain and depression that comes from chronic illness, permanent injury, or disability. In-office therapy is located in Evanston; sometimes telehealth is an option at various stages of therapy.

Therapeutic Fly Fishing with EMDR was developed by Tony Parmenter, MA CEO, Seiyu I.H.T. It integrates with fly fishing and traditional Tenkara fly-fishing with EMDR, to allow a 7 senses healing approach to trauma and other mental health conditions. Tony's clinical work on this protocol was published in the Journal of Military and Veterans Health.
Tony works closely with Dan Pierce, EMDR Therapist and Maine Tenkara Guide and Instructor. Freedom Mountain Counseling has trained with Dan Pierce, LCPC-C to learn the basics of Tenkara in 2023, to further teach clients this therapeutic sport. Tony, Dan, Alex Danilowicz, LCSW, and Freedom Mountain Counseling meet monthly to consult about TF-EMDR.
Nature heals! Combining traditional evidenced-based psychotherapy and EMDR within nature settings includes hiking, meditation, mindfulness practices, and resource development. Freedom Mountain Counseling engages clients in various settings that are most comfortable for the client.
Winter in Wyoming is a very long season and can be difficult to get through for many people. Combining snowshoeing or cross-country skiing with EMDR provides clients the ability to continue their nature-based EMDR work during those colder seasons, while also benefiting from physical exercise at their fitness level.
Victoria Kelm-Foy, LCSW, CFMH, Certified EMDR Therapist has merged EMDR and these winter sports to expand on the EMDR experience with the 7 Senses approach. She has created and named this modality 7S-EMDR. She is currently also working on including other activities and EMDR into the 7S-EMDR protocol. More details will be added to the website as they unfold.

Therapy in the outdoors includes the 7 senses (see, hear, feel, taste, touch, action, and emotion). Combining traditional evidenced-based psychotherapy in a nature setting allows relaxation to the nervous system, gained awareness, and the experience of internal silence and "awe." This type of healing cannot be replicated in an office setting. Freedom Mountain Counseling provides this modality to fit the client's needs, activity preferences, and skill level.
If your traditional talk therapy is not working, it is time to address the mind/body response through ecotherapy.
